Offered for sale on behalf of the owner is this part-completed Lykamobile, as sold originally by Steam Traction World in around 2009. This specific example is noted as being the control model used by Steam Traction World to help with fault-finding in development. It was later sold as a project which has moved towards being a finished car but isn’t quite there. The bulk of the major work is complete but it needs a good deal more work to see it finished and on the road!
The Lykamobile is a superb replica of the c.1899 Locomobile steam car. These replicas are sold in kit form by Steam Traction World and assembled by enthusiasts. The example offered for sale here is one of the very first ‘Mk 1’ editions using a tiller steering. It is fitted with a Riello kerosene burner firing into a boiler. This runs a twin cylinder engine which is direct drive through a chain to the rear axle.
It looks to be largely complete (nothing major seems to be missing) but needs finishing as a project. Most parts are as new with the bulk of the work already done. The electronics and burner haven’t been tested, nor has the boiler. Having said that, it is a very viable project which could be conducted by an amateur. It includes paperwork including an incomplete set of instructions and, importantly, the original boiler certificate confirming it meets conformity.
It is a great project which is well worth considering!
