Offered for sale on behalf of the owner, this 5 inch gauge locomotive has a slightly confused background and build but we will write here what we have identified.
Included in the sale is a selection of drawings for the ever-popular ‘Maid of Kent’ 5″ gauge locomotive. Whilst the engine offered for sale shows similarities with that design, notably with the internal cylinder arrangement, it certainly isn’t built to be the ‘Maid of Kent’ but rather it looks to be a miniature of the I3 class tank locomotive by D.E Marsh for the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway.
In terms of the history of this miniature itself, the boiler looks to have seen little use but has seen a fire at some point. It was disassembled prior to the current owner’s ownership started so they are uncertain as to whether it started out as a very thorough rebuild or whether it is still in build from new. We suggest that there is a bit of both here!
The majority of the components are present and it looks like it would come together to be a fairly appealing tank locomotive.
As with any locomotive we sell, we don’t offer the full warranty services as we do with our miniature road engines but we can reassure buyers that we are candid with explaining the condition and that our experience with road steam engines reflects into the occasional locomotive that we offer for sale. This does not affect your statutory rights as a buyer.
Viewings are welcome at our premises near Exeter. Alternatively, UK-wide and international shipping is possible.
