Offered for sale on behalf of the owner is a quirky example of the rarely seen Orcop Yeoman Portable Steam Engine. The design is 4″ scale but the prototype would’ve been small (possibly 3 or 4NHP) so it comes out as a very small example of the scale. For dimensions, please see the bottom of the listing.

Although it has been subject to a recent boiler inspection from the owner’s club, we are listing this example as a project requiring tidying up to be able to show it off as a good example. The boiler report noted that the boiler is ‘Brand New Condition’ however also noted that the platework used in construction (c. 3mm) doesn’t give much scope for deterioration.

Key Features:

• Steel boiler from unknown maker – dated from the paperwork as being 1992 which is around the time this design was originally documented in the Model Engineer.
• Single cylinder arrangement. Single direction, simplistic steam engine.
• Mechanical, crank driven water pump. Also comes with an external hand pump.
• Locomotive type pressure release valves, dummy governor and mechanical lubricator.
• Mechanically, the engine has been built to a reasonable standard. It is complete but is listed as a project, partly because it would benefit from an overhaul of the motionwork.
• Cosmetically, it is roughly painted in an unusual colourscheme! Would benefit from a cosmetic tidy up.
• The wheels are wooden and pleasantly done.

Overall, a pleasant project miniature which offers plenty of scope for improvement whilst being largely complete.
