Offered for sale is this beautfully presented 2″ scale Showman’s Road Locomotive to the popular ‘Princess’ design from H. R. Plastow. The sale includes an earlier boiler test record however, as with many of this style and scale, it looks to have been built completely by a very skilled model engineer who has then never steamed it and retained it for either display or, potentially, running on compressed air. It was hydraulically tested in 2006 as a new boiler by a model engineering society.
Since then, it looks as if a repair attempt has been made within the firebox which has regrettable resulted in the boiler no longer being serviceable without either serious repair or replacement. With some work, it would likely be possible to set it to run the motion work only on compressed air however we do not believe it is fit for steam in its current state.
We are therefore offering it for sale as it is as an impressive and very pretty display engine. The finish and engineering is superb. Due to the boiler fault, it is to be sold as a project with no warranty in its current state.
Key Features:
- The copper boiler is not currently serviceable due to a previous, poor quality repair. There is limited historical paperwork included, as common with this type of engine when unsteamed.
- A double crank compound cylinder arrangement with a slide valves actuated by a Stephenson’s linkages. Fitted with three speeds.
- Mechanical water pump and a hand pump for filling the boiler when running.
- Steam whistle, mechanical lubricator, and pressure release valve with a dummy governor and whistle.
- Well-built to a very high standard throughout. We don’t believe this example has ever been steamed.
- The paintwork is very smart with painted lining throughout. It really reflects the prototype engines and shows it off as being one of the nicest built examples of this design we have seen here.
Overall, a very pretty miniature which is particularly nicely turned out. A real display piece – whilst not currently fit for steam, it is a superb looking engine which stands proudly.
