Offered for sale, on behalf of the owner, is this impressive 6″ scale Clayton Steam Lorry measuring over 10ft long with a vertical steel boiler, comfortable driving position and undertype engine. From the paperwork, it looks to have been built using a commercially made boiler from 1993. There are a small selection of boiler reports from over the years but, from the good condition of it, we don’t think it has seen excessive use. There is also a large folder full of historical documentation linked to the lorry.
Key Features:
- The welded steel boiler was made by respected boiler makers, Valentine Engineering, in 1993. It includes plenty of historic documentation and we would be happy to include a new commercial boiler inspection, if requested – feel free to speak to us about this one.
- An undertype, twin cylinder enclosed engine, typical of this design. It is a single-speed driving gear arrangement but is powerful in both directions. It is also fitted with a dog-clutch allowing for the engine to run out of gear. The engine runs in a fully enclosed, oil bath crankcase.
- Working pressure of 150psi.
- Mechanical water pump and steam injector fitted for filling the boiler when in steam, as standard.
- Foster-type mechanical lubricator, and pressure release valve with a substantial whistle.
- Built to a high standard throughout. It has been maintained well and looks the part!
- The transmission is by chain drive to the rear axle with a differential.
- The paint is good and in keeping with the design and style. The signwriting is smart and adds character to this lorry.
- The wheels are cast with rubber tyres! It is registered with a V5C.
- Includes a half-day tuition session, if requested by the buyer.
Overall, a pleasant and very unusual lorry which is great to see and offers the buyer many years of enjoyment.
