Miniature Road Steam

Offered for sale is this very smart 4″ scale Garrett traction engine – it is a fine example of the sought after design. It is for sale on behalf of the owner who bought it privately from the original builder.

Build was conducted until around 2007 over the course of several years however, upon going for insurance the first time around with the commercially-made boiler, changes to CE legislation around the time meant it couldn’t be insured due to insufficient documentation so, in around 2009, the original builder rebuilt the engine (despite still being virtually new) around a replacement boiler from AJB Engineering. We see that as true commitment and real dedication to ensuring this engine ticks every box and is correct in every way! It really is a fine example of this design both cosmetically and mechanically.

Key Features:

• Welded Steel Boiler commercially made by AJB Engineering. It looks in good order with good plate thicknesses and clean inside. It has full documentation and can be offered inclusive of up to date boiler testing.
• Two-speed, single cylinder arrangement. Slide valve actuated by Stephenson’s linkage.
• Mechanical water pump and injector fitted for filling the boiler when in steam, as standard. 
• Mechanical lubricator, steam whistle and pressure release valves. The dummy governor is also present.
• Mechanically, the engine has been built to a high standard throughout. It has been maintained to a high standard and has the feel of a well-built miniature.
• Cosmetically, the paintwork is simplistic in the traditional green livery with red wheels and lining. It feels high-quality and is showing minimal age related marks.
• The wheels are fitted with rubber tyres and it is registered for road use – ideal for the tarmac!

Overall, a nicely built miniature which is a little elevated compared to your typical 4″ scale miniature!
