Miniature Road Steam

Offered for sale is an attractive example of the 2″ scale Minnie. The Minnie is a popular freelance design which was originally drawn by LC Mason in 1″ scale to be an appealing and accessible build for the hobby engineer. The original design is commonly scaled up to 2″ scale which makes for an attractive and nice sized starter engine.

As with many miniatures of this age, we don’t have information about the early history of this one however the engraving on the side suggests it may have been built by a Mr Page of Sidmouth, Devon. Our assessment of it is that it has seen very little use in its life.

Key Features:

• Copper boiler of unknown origin – likely non-commercially made by the builder, as is typical. We don’t typically include commercial boiler testing within the sale of miniatures of this scale. Feel free to contact us regarding options going forward. It looks sound – we have seen the engine before and it steams freely.
• Two-speed, single cylinder arrangement. Slide valve actuated by Stephenson’s linkage.
• Mechanical water pump and injector fitted for filling the boiler when in steam, as standard. 
• Mechanical lubricator and pressure release valves.
• Mechanically, the engine has been built to high standard. It stands well and looks smart. It has been maintained nicely meaning it runs as it should with no obvious play or bearing issues to note. Generally honest and nicely presented.
• Cosmetically, it is painted in traditional livery with the pin-striping setting it off nicely. It makes for a nice show engine.
• The wheels are fitted with rubber tyres.

Overall, a great, entry-level miniature which could either be enjoyed in steam or left as a superb display engine.
