Offered for sale is this superb outfit, based on the 2″ scale ‘Thetford Town’ design with a matching (and we must say, rather impressive) Showman’s-style caravan. The original build date of the engine is unknown however the records start in 1999 when a new boiler was made and presumably fitted to replace a previously failed example.
Key Features:
- The copper boiler was replaced in 1999 by an example made by CRB Engineering. It is accompanied by a folder of boiler reports, with the current report set to expire in June 2025. It is nicely made – feel free to speak to us about boiler testing options moving forward.
- Typical of the ‘Thetford Town’ design, it is modelled on the Scenic Showman’s Road Locomotive running with a double crank compound cylinder arrangement (albeit set to 90PSI) and three speeds.
- Mechanical water pump and a hand pump for filling the boiler when running. It is also fitted with an injector.
- Steam whistle, mechanical lubricator, and locomotive type pressure release valve. Also fitted with a dummy Pickering-style governor.
- Well-built to a good standard throughout. It has seen a good deal of work in recent years to bring it up to standard.
- The paintwork is good in a pleasant livery. It lacks any signwriting but, we often find the ‘Thetford Town’ is complicated enough so signwriting would make it too busy.
- Extra features include lamps, a winch and flywheel brake.
- Solid rubber tyres fitted for use on hard ground.
- The included showman’s caravan is remarkable. It is intricate and nicely detailed externally being an excellent scale to match the engine. The interior has been cleverly kitted out to act as a water store for the engine!
Overall, a remarkable miniature outfit which will undoubtedly give the buyer many hours of fun!
