We are pleased to have been commissioned to advertise for sale, on behalf of the owner, this superb Burrell Gold Medal Tractor in 10” scale!
New in around 2020, this one has spent the last couple of years being enjoyed and fettled by its owner. Recent works include (but are not limited to); a new ‘Burrell’ pressure gauge, new slide valves, new ‘full-sized’ Foster-type mechanical lubricator, improved fire hole door arrangement, converted from grease to oil on big ends. It can now be considered a rally-ready, large scale steam engine!
It features a welded steel boiler built to UK specification and can be supplied with the full certification in place for the new owner to enjoy it straight away.
In true Gold Medal Tractor style, it is a double crank compound engine with a three-speed drive train and sprung rear axle. Every effort has been made to replicate the prototype in a user-friendly way to produce an engine which is usable, and which still retains an authentic appearance. The paintwork is excellent with a superb livery which suits the design.
Further features of this engine include being fitted with belly tanks, motion covers, a flywheel brake, and a solid flywheel. It has a water pump fitted to the outside of the firebox beneath the flywheel (like the design fitted to Burrell Tractor No. 3868 – Lane, 1971) and an injector. The rubber tyres are perfect for the engine. Weighing in in excess of 4 tonnes, it is certainly a monster of a miniature. Regardless of its weight, we do not think haulage will be an issue and think you would be hard pressed to find an owner of a 3-speed engine like this who would not take every opportunity to head out on the road! It is certainly geared well for road use and has a good turn of speed in the higher gears making it a good candidate for those longer road runs. It is registered for road use with a current V5C (22 plate).
Overall, an impressive large-scale miniature!
