Offered for sale on behalf of the owner is this charming Ford Model A, complete with full documentation and information about its entire history.
OW 939 is a British made, Ford Model A Deluxe, and thought to be the only survivor of this particular origin. Costing the keen price of £230 when new in 1931 (towards the latter days of the Model A build years) it is unusual in having two-tone paint, leather upholstery, a sunroof and window blinds.
It was supplied new by South Hants Motor Co. in Southampton and registered on 2nd September 1931. It was then used for a couple of years before being sold on 14th July 1933 and then sold again to Mr Marshall, a farmer, in July 1934. It remained with him and then his daughter until 1965 where it was laid to rest, unused, in a barn in 1981 before being left in a will to a family friend who passed it onto their grandson.
We understand a previous owner purchased and then restored the car fully in 1982 with it returning to the road in 1988. Their understanding is that the mileage recorded at that point of 84,000 miles was correct (although not proven). Since restoration, it has clearly been cherished and enjoyed with the mileage now reading 89,352 miles at time of writing. The present owner bought the car in recent years.
Despite it being a few years since the restoration, it has fared very well and presents as a nice prewar classic. The paint is good with no obvious blemishes to note and is in that distinctive two-tone colour scheme. There is, of course, the odd age related mark which can be forgiven for this era of car. The chromework is good and still bright. The interior is showing signs of age however still presents nicely and could be enjoyed as it is today.
It is fitted with the standard 2,043cc four-cylinder petrol engine typical of the Model A. It drives as expected of this era of saloon – coming a stop as easily as it gets going. The engine drives through a 3-speed and reverse gearbox.
The V5C is correct and present alongside a good folder of historical invoices, historical documents, a 1940s buff logbook and magazine extracts. The sale also includes a selection of related spares (see photograph of rear seat) and car cover.
A charming prewar Ford Model A Deluxe which will no doubt provide the buyer with many years of enjoyment.
